_Can you present yourself ?
I am 22 years old and from Switzerland, I compose many kinds of instrumental music, write and develop artificial languages.
J'ai 22 ans et vient de la Suisse je compose beaucoup de musique instrumentale, écris et développe des langages artificiels.
_ Why do you compose your own music ? Why not a band ?
I could never compose a piece of music together with another person, the creation has to come 100% from within me. Furthermore I hate performing anything in front of an audience, I am definitely not made for live shows. I am the kind of person who needs to have his peace and solitude instead of being around people.
_How do you see you're first album today ?
Very amateurish. I feel that the spectrum of my music has widened a lot since then and also my creativity.
Très d'amateur. J'estime que le spectre de ma musique c'est beaucoup élargi depuis et aussi ma créativité.
_ You begin to be known in the middle of music, What happened ?
To be honest I don't know what happened either. I only know that the release of the song "A Celtic Tale" has helped me a lot because many people heard and shared it. Since then it has really been more of a continuous, hard advancement rather than being "famous overnight". I work hard on every song, and every song gets me a few more fans, and that's basically how it proceeds.
_ What pleases you in the music which you compose? Why this choice of ambient music?
I almost never listen to music with vocals, I was always more fascinated by how music alone can create emotions and conjure worlds of its own. Vocals mostly distract me honestly. That is also the reason why I turned a lot towards film music.
_ Why do you Have no label ? Why share you're music principaly on web ?
I have received lots of offers from labels but I want to stay independent, that is for sure. The reason is that while being an independent composer no one is the "boss" of me and of what I do. Nobody can tell me what to do and I am completely free in the choices I make. That would get diminished a lot if I would be under contract with a label. The thing about the internet is simply because it's the cheapest way for me how to promote and sell my music. As an independent musician I don't have a big promotion company in my back neither do I have the financial needs to get my albums into real stores. So that's why I do it on the internet, it is the only way actually for me to make my music known without having to sign up with a label.
_ you're album cover, it's from you ?
No, the album covers are all created by my Beloved, Carina Grimm. She is a visual artist and photographer and also does lots of other things for me like profile pictures, video artworks or merchandise.
_ How do you proceed to compose ?
I leave that up to the unpredictability of my inspiration. The universe of music is infinite and I am very happy for that fact. Of course I will probably always have a focus on film music, Classical instrumentation and of course no vocals.
_ I think you have created 4 languages, (in "Ethêlo-iêl" for example), Why ? Can you talk about this ?
I am in the process of creating these languages, yes. Other than creating a song though where you can say at one point "the song is finished", creating a language is something that is impossible to "finish". If you look at J.R.R. Tolkien's languages for example you see that he worked on them for 50 years and there was never a stop to it. The language seen in the title of Ethêlo-iêl will never be published, the other 3 languages will be made available for the public at some point though. Why I am doing this is hard to say, I just adore languages in general I guess. I am fascinated by etymology and linguistics as a broad subject.
_ Any source of inspiration ?
Most of the time my inspiration is coming from my weariness with our world and I start conjuring my own worlds inside my mind. And Carina is also giving me an amount of inspiration so big that she cannot even imagine it.
_ What kind of project do you have ?
At the moment I try to finish about 5 albums at the same time while working on my languages and a script for a first fantasy novel.
À l'heure actuelle j'essaye de finir environ 5 albums tout en travaillant en même temps sur mes langues et un scénario pour un premier roman de fantasy.
_ Any idea for you're future, in the music ?
I hope I can work more with film composing in the future. I have worked on one movie until now and it was a fantastic experience. I would definitely want to do that again. Other than that I will just keep doing my own albums and keep on expanding the variety of my music.
_Can you give a piece of advice to the people who wanna start in music ?
Music is more a passion than a theoretical subject. So in order to make the best music that you can you need to lose focus on all the theoretical aspects that revolve around it. Also if you attempt to become a professional musician you have to be aware of the fact that it is very hard work. I was working as a gardener and it was hard to dig holes and carry stones for 10h a day, but I can honestly say that my current work is harder. A gardener comes home at the end of the day and is allowed to rest, but being a composer means to be in work-mode 24h a day. The dangerous thing about being a composer is that all your success depends 100% on whether you have a good idea or not. It sometimes scares me when I think about the possibility that my creativity could just suddenly end, but despite those difficulties and uncertainties it is the best - or even the ONLY - job I would ever want. The reason for that is because music is as said above, a passion. And if you have that passion, go for it and never let any stones that get in your way knock you over
